Has anyone seen my good night’s sleep?

There is nothing worse than getting a poor night’s sleep. Well, except for getting several bad rests in a row.

As I mentioned yesterday, I have a problem with accidentally falling asleep with the TV on. In addition to this, I have other sleeping issues, mostly involving short nights or just plain unrestful sleep. Last night was a short night situation. I had some work to finish up after I got home from my “real” job. I didn’t get to bed until after 2am, but given that Tuesdays are my days off, I figured I’d have plenty of recovery. Unfortunately, 6 hours later, I was awake. Not rested, but awake. I was not a happy camper.

I attempted to go back to sleep, but Cosie would not have it. She seems all innocent, but trust me, when she wants her morning can of Fancy Feast, her disposition becomes less than pleasant.

FEED ME!! NOW!!! >:O

I hobbled into the kitchen, in search of some wet food, but alas, I was out. Although Cosie had a big bowl of dry kibble, she wasn’t having it and she mewed and mewed until I put on my flip flops and headed out the door and to the local convenience store. Despite being completely broke until Thursday (payday), I lucked out yesterday and found $20 on the floor…score! I should’ve saved it in case of an emergency, but I decided that my crappy, exhausted self deserved a special treat. After buying 5 very expensive cans of cat food (I had no idea that the store I went to had such inflated prices!), I headed over to The Grind to find something to nosh on.

I returned home with one of my favorite breakfasts:

#11 bagel: Garlic bagel, cream cheese, avocado, red onion, tomato, cucumber and sprouts

I am in love. ❤

And of course:

Nonfat Cafe Au Lait....with a State Farm sleeve....interesting....

Cosie enjoyed the fact that I brought home food. She especially enjoyed that I needed to photograph my bagel outside. It meant an open backdoor….her favorite thing! Unfortunately, it isn’t my favorite thing. It makes me nervous.

She escapes the apartment quickly...

...and then she begins trying to escape up the stairs....

...she claims that she really isn't trying to run away from home...

...that she's just trying to gain a different perspective on the world around her...

..but I know the truth.

I had lofty goals and ambitions for today, but I’m totally wiped out. I think I’m going to watch some trashy television for a bit and then evaluate how I feel.

What do you do when you’re experiencing sleeping problems?

  1. I’ve had problems sleeping since turned the ripe ol’ age of 7. My mind just works too fast for me to fall asleep easily. I’ve tried out a bunch of different things with varying levels of success, but have problems sticking with most of them.

Having a few cups of Chamomile tea about an hour seems to work the best for me, as well as making sure I eat enough to get me through the night. People suggest reading until you fall asleep, which is a good idea in theory, but in my case I end up staying awake past the point where I get sleepy so I can finish up reading just a little bit more. I like the idea of turning off all screens about an hour before going to bed, but it’s pretty hard for me to do. I need to work on making my iPhone off-limits in bed.

This summer all the news reports on Japanese TV mentioned that the best way to fall asleep is to raise your temperature with a warm bath before going to bed in a cool room. Apparently the drop in internal temperature relaxes the body and signals that it’s time to sleep.

    1. I would like to turn off all of the screens…my problem is that I can’t get away from them.

Ideally, I wouldn’t have a TV/computer/iPhone in my bedroom…but since I only have one room, it’s impossible. How to ignore that e-mail notification on my phone when I’m right here, wide awake? Last night I didn’t check any extra e-mails or fall asleep to the tv…just couldn’t get a whole 8 hours, which I needed, desperately.

      Tea might be a thought.

  2. Ok seriously… so funny. I literally woke up this morning after only 6 hours of sleep and told myself that I’m unplugging at 9pm for the rest of the week (that’s my goal at least.) No computer, cell phone, tv, etc. Currently I have the following to blame on my lack of sleep a.) the entire series of Nip/Tuck on Netflix Instant Play b.) blog procrastination c.) my sister’s baby and all the stuff that goes into planning and d.) overstock.com because I’m redecorating my house.

Ay yi yi! I hate those mornings when you could sleep in but for some reason your fur baby (in my case… Mr. Teddy my pug) wake you up in dire need of nourishment.

My tip for better sleep… a sleep mask! I started wearing one about 2 years ago. They work wonders!

    1. Which season of Nip/Tuck are you on? I HAD to give up after season 5. The show had just gotten too ridiculous. I couldn’t even watch anymore…

A sleep mask, huh? Maybe that might be a good idea.

It would also protect my eyes when Cosie starts lightly poking my eye sockets, trying to encourage me to play with her despite the hour being 4:30am.
