Greenhearts Family Farm Delivers!

As I wrote yesterday, I gave Greenhearts Family Farm a call, in hopes of scoring my first CSA box. I had been told they would know by noon if there was enough produce to put together a box for me. My excitement mounted. Although I wasn’t promised a box, I just felt like it was going to work out. So I went on about my daily business. Against my will, I did my laundry, carrying my cell phone in case I got that important call that said produce was en route. No call.

So I had some lunch:

Thomas’ Everything Bagel Thin with TJ’s Garlic Aioli Mustard, peppered turkey breast, baby spinach and avocado. Chobani vanilla greek yogurt on the side.

I had planned to go to the YMCA today and hit the Ferry Building Farmer’s Market, since I had missed out on Tuesday. Thing is, I was worried I’d miss out on my CSA box, so I didn’t. I know, I know! I’m bad! I should’ve worked out. Instead, I washed my dishes (I had a HUGE sink full of them…yuck!) and did a few household chores. As the day went by, my hopes in getting a box grew dim and I started to feel guilty that I hadn’t worked out and sad that I had no produce from the market. At some point I had a snack of a banana with peanut butter (I’m sure you all know what that looks like…) and around that time I began watching coverage of the huge San Bruno explosion/fire.

Boy, my day was sure looking glum. I watched for a few more hours and then cooked some dinner:

Roasted brussels sprouts and potatoes (from last week’s farmer’s market). The potatoes were tossed with extra virgin olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper. The brussels sprouts with extra virgin olive oil, apple cider vinegar, salt and pepper. Also added two chopped slices of cooked turkey bacon to the brussels sprouts prior to roasting.

I was resigned to not getting any fruit and veggies and was thinking I would just order a box next week when my phone buzzed. A text message. From Greenhearts! They told me to text them back if I wanted them to deliver a box within the hour. They had a long day, but were going to drop the box off on their way home! Awesome! They arrived, apologized for such a late delivery, told me to call when I was done with the box (because they will be happy to come pick it up) and now I am the proud owner of all of this:

The box came with a recipe!! How awesome!

Sorry about the picture quality. I’m functioning with an iPhone…and not an iPhone 4, either…

My fridge is packed full of fresh produce and I am so happy I gave them a call. I would completely recommend Greenhearts to everyone in the area who is looking for a CSA that allows week to week service, without a contract or commitment. Plus you can’t beat the service…yesterday morning I had an empty fridge, today I am riding high on veggies! Nice!

Looks like you scored with that first box – what a great haul. And cool that you knew it was going to work out and went with it. Hope you’ll post if you do try that Molly Katzen recipe.
